A Practical Guide to Pediatric Cardiac CT

Dr. Saira Siddiqui, MD, FACC; Atlantic Health System, Morristown Medical Center

Dr. Siddiqui is a Pediatric Cardiologist specializing in the development of non-invasive cardiac imaging techniques at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey. For her presentation, Dr. Siddiqui will give a practical guide to pediatric cardiac CT. Her focus will be on reviewing pediatric-specific challenges and considerations when performing cardiac CT and discussing how to minimize radiation exposure while optimizing imaging in children. Throughout the presentation, Dr. Siddiqui will provide examples of pediatric-specific cardiac CT protocols.

Dr. Ben Wedro practices Emergency Medicine at Gundersen Clinic, a regional trauma and tertiary referral centre in La Crosse, Wisconsin. For his presentation, Dr. Wedro will review the technology advancements that allow medical providers the opportunity to detect and assess illness, injury and disease. Using case examples, the presentation will discuss the history of diagnostic procedures and will review relevant anatomy, physiology and the rules and guidelines regarding diagnostic ordering.

Dr. Szczykutowicz is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin Madison. He specializes in CT, researching everything from CT reconstruction algorithms to protocol management and protocol optimization. In his upcoming presentation, Dr. Szczykutowicz will share details on practical steps for managing large amounts of CT protocols to keep workflow running smoothly.

Mary Ellen Jafari is a Diagnostic Medical Physicist for Atlantic Health System in Morristown, New Jersey. In this presentation, Mary Ellen will help attendees understand and be able to explain the physical principles for dual and multi-energy CT imaging as well as describe the different technological methods for acquiring dual and multi-energy CT exams.

Jeff Frimeth, M.sc, MCCPM, CIIP, MRSO (MRSCTM),  MRSE (MRSCTM), CDIP; President & Chief Medical Physicist, JF Medical Physics Inc.

Jeff Frimeth is President and Chief Medical Physicist of JF Medical Physics. He is a Diagnostic Radiological Medical Physicist specializing in working with facilities in establishing, maintaining and improving image quality and radiation safety. In his presentation, Jeff will provide a general overview of the DICOM standard such as why it was created and a typical workflow scheme in a Diagnostic Imaging department. He will also explain how DICOM can be used for troubleshooting and radiation dose issues.
