2023 OAMRS Chapter Education Days: Northwestern Exposure

OAMRS Chapter Education Days are back! Join the OAMRS Northwestern Chapter – in person – for an OAMRS Chapter Education Weekend for MRTs and DMSs who live in Northwestern Ontario.

 

Starting on Friday, April 21 at the Baggage Building Arts Centre, network with fellow MRTs and DMSs and hear from special guest, Kyle Arnold, Harm Reduction Support Worker and OPSEU outreach worker, who will share his experiences with mental health and substance misuse and offer suggestions for supporting patients in their recovery. (Specialty coffee bar and snacks provided.) Then, on Saturday, April 22, get ready for a full day of learning at Confederation College where you’ll hear from local experts in their fields. Participate in discussions that will increase your expertise and help you gain insights to leading technologies in the industry. (Buffet lunch provided.)

Against All Odds - To open the event, Kyle Arnold, a Harm Reduction Support Worker with Norwest Community Health Centre and P.A.C.E. will share his life story and his struggles with addiction. Kyle will also discuss the stigma associated with addiction, which he and other addicts face daily.

The Role of Sonographers in TI-RADS - Our first presentation of the day will be from Dr. Radu Rozenberg, Radiologist at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Rozenberg will discuss the importance of sonographers to the quality of the radiologist's report and patient's outcome. He will also cover TI-RADS, its importance, and related practical points.

Orthopedic Imaging - Market Challenges and Future Expectations - Attendees will hear from Dawn M. Johnson, Orthopaedic Clinical Applications Specialist at Sectra for her discussion on market changes in orthopedic imaging since COVID, future challenges, and the emerging technology of which we can expect to see more in the coming years.

Vascular Imaging in Northwestern Ontario - Dr. Mary Elizabeth MacDonald, MD, PhD, FRCSC, RPVI, Vascular Surgeon at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and Assistant Professor at NOSM University will share her presentation on building a vascular imaging program in the region which includes arterial ultrasonography, arterial angioplasty, and endovascular surgery for aortic aneurysms, including ruptured aneurysms.

MRI with Hyperpolarized and Inert Gas Contrast Agents and Xenon Biosensor Molecular MRI - Hear from Dr. Mitchell Albert, Professor of Chemistry, Research Chair in Molecular Imaging and Advanced Diagnostics, Lakehead  University/Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute as he discusses how MRI signals are enhanced by 100,000 times using hyperpolarized gas.

PET Scanner Updates - In their presentation, Katie Tuomi, MHA, BSc, MRT(N) and Megan Ellis, BSc, MRT(N) of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre will address questions related to PET scanners at TBRHSC including, what PET is, what all the construction is for, and how it is going to improve patient care.
